Cho Girl

Only a city like ours could have spawned as big and vibrant a personality as Margaret Cho. The outspoken comedian, queer activist, and now political blogger (for CNN and the Huffington Post) was born and raised in Baghdad by the Bay, with a childhood largely spent on Polk Street, where her family operated a bookstore. That foundation helped her sprout the giant cojones that have been with her throughout her career. Cho first came to national prominence 14 years ago with a controversial ABC sitcom, and has only earned more respect as she's spoken out against injustices large and small, from pervasive body image problems to discriminatory laws. Expect to see more of her: The Cho Show, a reality show for VH1, just got the greenlight. Cho's opener on her current tour, "Beautiful," is comic Liam Sullivan, better known as Kelly, a pouty YouTube celebrity who's clocked more than 18 million views of "Shoes," a hilarious musical odyssey of the disaffected.
