We have not read local author Jennifer Sey's book Chalked Up: Inside Elite Gymnastics' Merciless Coaching, Overzealous Parents, Eating Disorders, and Elusive Olympic Dreams. But we did see Stick It, a movie on the same theme whose tagline is "It's not called gym-nice-tics," so we feel like we know what she's talking about. Sey reads at a lineup of writers who feel, um, somewhat ambiguous about the value of competitive exercise; it's called "Fuck Sports." The evening is brought to you by Alan Black, the same guy who brought us the Swearing Festival, and who has just published Kick the Balls: An Offensive Suburban Odyssey. It's about his time as one of those abusive soccer coaches you hear so much about he's a real peach of a guy. Other writers with poor team spirit include the "poet laureate of NASCAR" Bucky Sinister, former long-jump record-holder Beth Lisick, Incredibly Strange Wrestling maven Count Dante, and son of a sports columnist Eddie Muller.
