Thanks to the resurgence of small-batch DIY knitting and stitching among artists, we no longer have to bow down to the man when buying crafts. The Renegade Craft Fair, which started in Chicago’s Wicker Park back when people still paid attention to Wicker Park (2003), now happens four times a year around the country, including at the McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn, a hipster flash point the New York Times cannot stop covering. This year it comes to S.F. for the first time, with more than 150 vendors peddling their homemade wares (everything from plush toys to posters, T-shirts, jewelry, and stationery), along with DJs throughout the weekend and Chicago's circus-punk marching band Mucca Pazza playing today.
